Cambridge colleges build accounting on strong Foundation

11 August 2003 - Pembroke, Corpus Christi, Churchill and Girton, four of the colleges that make up the University of Cambridge, have chosen to implement SunSystems accounting software from Foundation Systems to cope with the ever growing accounting needs of educational institutions.
Each college is autonomous, and has its own reporting systems, but ultimately reports to the University. The software, based on SunSystems Accounting with the Vision reporting module, will allow the colleges to integrate their payroll, accounting and billing functions, as well as streamlining both the internal and external accounting and reporting processes.
The colleges felt that SunSystems offered the best functionality, along with multi-dimensional reporting, and better integration because of the well-developed underlying structure of the software. It also allows individual budget holders to access reports on their desktops, allowing for rapid updates and report production.
“Foundation Systems challenged our thinking from the outset, making suggestions about how best to tackle our particular challenges,” said Andrew Enticknap, finance manager at Pembroke College. “SunSystems offers us all of the functionality we need, allowing us to cut the time it takes to update the accounts and produce reports.”
“Educational institutions have the same accounting requirements as any other SME,” said Hugh Scantlebury, managing director of Foundation Systems. “By using SunSystems, the four colleges in Cambridge can integrate many of the functions that were formerly on individual systems, making processes more efficient and improving the transparency of accounts.”
